The Six County Association of Governments (SCAOG) participates in a rural housing program that allows a first time homebuyer to use sweat equity as their down payment. This mutual self help program will qualify from 6-10 families and allow them to work as a group under the supervision and guidance of an experienced home builder. In addition each family may qualify for a reduced mortgage interest rate to make sure the monthly payments after the homes are finished are affordable.
Each family will have to commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week for a period of 10-12 months to complete each home. The skills needed will be taught during the construction so no previous knowledge of construction is ever necessary or required. Your sweat equity will reduce the price of the home approximately 25% and will act as your down payment for the property.
* Commit to 30 hours per week during construction
* Meet maximum income requirements (80% of AMI)
* Need to be a First Time Homebuyer (no home ownership for at least three years)
* Qualify for a home mortgage according USDA / Rural Housing guidelines.
