Hosting a Fabulous Independence Day BBQ!

So the 4th of July is just around the corner and what kind of a celebration would it be without a BBQ? Nothing says summer holidays like a delicious BBQ with family and friends. Here are some helpful tips for hosting a great 4th of July BBQ!

Tip #1:
When planning food for the holiday BBQ, it is a good idea to keep it simple and relaxed knowing that most of your guests already really enjoy BBQ food. You don’t need to worry so much about catering to lots of individual tastes because even kids usually enjoy the classic BBQ foods. For meats you should stick with something simple like hamburgers, hot dogs, and ribs. There are now options for vegetarians such as tofu dogs and veggie burgers that BBQ very nicely. Salads make great side dishes to compliment a delicious BBQ. Traditional favorites may include potato salad, macaroni salad or other types of pasta salad. Be creative, salads are a tasty addition for those warm summer get togethers. Other options could include a green salad or a veggie tray, corn on the cob (which is amazing on the grill) and fresh fruit. And last, but not least, don’t forget a fabulous dessert and refreshing beverages for everyone.

Tip #2:
Planning a 4th of July BBQ for a large number of people can be costly, especially if you are providing all of the food. Consider planning a potluck BBQ and have each of your guests bring an item such as a side dish, dessert, or chips and dip. Another option is to have everyone B.Y.O.M., bring your own meat, and then you can provide the side dishes. It also works to have everyone bring their own beverages. Plan ahead and have fun with it!

Tip #3:
One of the most enjoyable aspects of planning a 4th of July BBQ is coming up with some kind of decorations that reflect this patriotic holiday. Pretty much anything red, white and blue is fitting. Balloons and streamers in red, white and blue are very festive when strategically placed around the yard. You can also add tablecloths, napkins, and plastic utensils to carry out the theme. These items are also disposable, so no need to worry about doing the dishes after the BBQ. From flags to fireworks the choices are endless when decorating for your 4th of July BBQ.

Tip #4:
It is always a good idea to plan some activities to entertain guests of all ages either for before the BBQ or after everyone has finished eating. Is there a swimming pool at your location, would your guests enjoy a karaoke machine, will there be kids who would love an impromptu baseball game? Whatever you have planned, be sure to inform your guests so that they know how to dress and if they need to bring a change of clothes or other items to participate.

Tip #5:
One of the most important factors to do when scheduling a Fourth of July BBQ is to choose where you are going to have the celebration. Are you planning on lighting your own fireworks, or do you plan on going to a park for a professional firework display. Whichever activities you choose, take into consideration travel time and allow extra time so you and your guest can get to the destination. Or if you are planning on going to a park to watch a firework display you might want to have the BBQ at the park. If this is the case, be sure to call ahead and reserve a table or get there early in the morning so you can still find a table.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July BBQ!
